The five million sales figure of the Samsung Galaxy Note may have prodded Apple to offer its own device that features a five-inch screen display if recent reports are proven to be true. This upcoming iPad mini will reportedly be smaller than the regular-sized iPad but bigger than the iPhone.
A five-inch panel is reportedly in the works to offer enough pixel density as the retina display of the iPhone 4S and the new iPad. The information on the display panel for the supposed iPad mini was reportedly sourced from a reliable source from China according to Macataka, an Apple news website based in Japan.
The reported iPad mini is expected to be introduced in the coming year and may feature a display resolution of either 1280 x 960 or 1600 x 960.
Aside from this latest rumored iPad mini, earlier reports also suggested that Apple is set to release an iPad with a screen display measuring 7.85 inches this year, which is smaller compared to the 9.7-inch display screen of the existing iPad. An unidentified official from Samsung reportedly revealed this information. Another report also hinted at the possibility that Apple was considering a device featuring 7.1-inch display screen.
However speculations have also emerged that these panels for a smaller version of the iPad will reportedly be used on the upcoming version of the iPhone. Apple was reportedly considering a 4.6-inch display for the upcoming iPhone, which is bigger compared to the current display of the iPhone but smaller than the supposed iPad mini.
The iPad mini reports have shown that the component purchases of Apple are being closely monitored by industry watchers even as the company has minimal modifications on the sizes of its products over the years. These modifications are closely controlled by the company particularly with its iOS devices.
Even as reports on the supposed iPad mini start to emerge, its rivals are already offering devices with different sizes as shown through the Samsung Galaxy Note, which has surprised a number of observers with its recent impressive sales figure recently.
For the moment, it will be a wait-and-see situation and no conclusions will be made by industry watchers until Apple will finally confirm whether or not it will release the supposed iPad mini into the market.
