Even as the
Microsoft Surface tablet was unveiled recently by the software giant, the
founder of Acer has indicated that the branded device will likely pave the way
for other devices using the Windows 8 OS before Microsoft will withdraw from
the market once this is done.
The
introduction of the Microsoft Surface tablet will supposedly compel device
manufacturers to create their own tablets using the Windows 8 OS before
Microsoft will step out of the way according to Stan Shih, the founder of Acer.
Reports have indicated that Microsoft did not really intend to sell its own
brand of tablets and will not offer new models of the Microsoft Surface tablets
once it has served its purpose.
Reports have
revealed that the strategy of Microsoft in the introduction of the Microsoft
Surface tablets was to persuade device manufacturers to develop their own
Windows 8 tablets. The company has no reason to offer the hardware into the
market since it was more profitable to license its software to manufacturers.
The conclusion of Shish was reportedly reached after analyzing the strategy of
Microsoft with the introduction of the Microsoft Surface tablets.
This may be
taken as a positive move for Microsoft although some views have given
indications that Microsoft has offered the Microsoft Surface tablets in order
to put it in a better position to go up against the Android-powered tablets and
the iPad of Apple. The introduction of the Microsoft Surface tablets will compel
manufacturers to compete not only with each other but with Microsoft itself as
well.
Despite the
introduction of the Microsoft Surface tablets, Dell has recently announced that
it considers Microsoft as an important partner for the company and it looks forward
to offering a new line of Windows 8-powered devices by fall. Shish reportedly
added that the adoption of the Windows 8 OS by vendors shows that they see the
introduction of the Microsoft Surface tablets positively and will be beneficial
for the marketing of Microsoft.
The supposed
strategy in the introduction of the Microsoft Surface tablets appears similar
to the strategy of Google where it offers the Nexus devices prior to offering
the latest Android OS to its hardware partners.
