Following
the introduction of the seven-inch Google Nexus tablet, reports have emerged on
the possibility that the company will be unveiling a ten-inch model of its
latest tablet offering.
According to
sources within the industry, a tech site based in Taiwan has reportedly
revealed that Google is planning to release a ten-inch model of the Google
Nexus tablet. The upcoming model of the device will reportedly feature display
panels that will be manufactured by AU Optronics and Wintek.
The touch
-screen panels that will be used on the seven-inch model of the Google Nexus
tablet is manufactured by Wintek, which has reportedly received an order of
500,000 panels that will be used on the seven-inch device.
However the
release date, price tag and the possible features of the supposed ten-inch
Google Nexus tablet were not revealed in the report. It should be taken into
consideration that the website has had a number of inaccurate reports in the
past, which led industry watchers to take the report with a grain of salt.
However
recent comments by the Google Android partner engineering director, Patrick
Brady, have given indications that the company may not offer a ten-inch model
of the Google Nexus tablet since the company reportedly opted for a seven-inch
device since it offers better portability.
Brady
revealed that a ten-inch tablet may not be small enough for reading and gaming
and that the company wanted the device to be portable. The company has put it much effort in the design
of the hardware and software to allow it to offer multiple functions. The
company wanted the Google Nexus tablet to be suitable for reading as well as
watching movies and playing games.
However if
the seven-inch model of the Google Nexus tablet will be successful in the
market, the company may opt to offer a ten-inch model that may be appealing to
some consumers in the market.
