The latest tablet offering of Lenovo was announced recently, initiating the next-generation devices of the company that will feature the Windows 8 OS of Microsoft. The Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet 2 will feature a 10.1-inch display screen and the Atom Clover Trail processor of Intel.

Weighing under-600 grams, the Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet 2 will become available sometime in October at around the same time the Windows 8 OS will be made available by Microsoft.

The Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet 2 succeeds the first ThinkPad Tablet, which used the Android 3.1 OS of Google and was released last year. The Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet 2 was initially unveiled during the Computex event in Taipei last June.

The upcoming tablet offering of Lenovo will feature an HD display, cameras in front and the back, an HDMI port, and a wireless video streaming feature. A USB port can be used to connect other peripherals like printers to the tablet, which also features a stylus input function.

The Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet 2 also features a fingerprint reader and has a remote management feature. According to the company, the upcoming device is designed for home and business use and may be offered with 3G as well as 4G connectivity options.

The Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet 2 was the result of the close collaboration of the company with Microsoft and Intel. The backward compatibility of the Intel chip with current programs of Windows PC programs was a major consideration of the company when it decided to use it. This will make the Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet 2 suitable for use in business environments.

Among the main rivals of the Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet 2 in the market will be the Microsoft Surface tablet along with the upcoming Windows 8 tablet offerings of Asus, Acer, Dell, and Hewlett Packard. The company will reportedly announce the price tag of the upcoming device near its launch date.
