It appears
that an upcoming Windows 8 tablet offering from Lenovo may compete with the
Microsoft Surface tablet since it will offer a Windows RT model aside from the
Windows 8 model. The Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga tablet has a lid that allows it to be
used either as a tablet or a laptop.
Lenovo had
earlier indicated that it was set to introduce a Windows RT product once the
Windows 8 OS is launched by Microsoft this coming October. Although the company
did not mention the name of the device, recent reports have pointed to the
Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga tablet as the device that the company is set to unveil.
The Lenovo
IdeaPad Yoga tablet will be released into the market by October and will come
in two models, a Windows RT model and a Windows 8 or a Windows 8 Pro model.
Earlier
reports had hinted of a Windows RT product from Lenovo that can be used either
as a tablet or a notebook. Unnamed sources had indicated that the supposed
Lenovo product is the Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga tablet although the company has not
issued any statements in connection to these reports.
The display
of the Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga tablet can be folded all the way to the back to
allow its use as a tablet device. The battery life of the Windows RT model of
the Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga tablet will reportedly be better compared to the
Windows 8 model due to the low-powered ARM chip of the device.
However the
Windows RT model of the Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga tablet will not offer support for
legacy desktop applications that can be used on the Windows 8 or the Windows 8 Pro
model of the device. A number of other applications used on the Windows RT
model will also be limited, which will supposedly allow the device to have a
better battery life.
The Lenovo
IdeaPad Yoga tablet will feature a thirteen-inch display screen and will weigh
around 1.5 kilograms.
