It appears
that the Microsoft Surface tablet will be released into the market on the same
day the Windows 8 OS will become available, October 26.
The
confirmation was made by Microsoft recently when it filed its annual report
with the Securities and Exchange Commission indicating that it will start to
sell the Microsoft Surface tablet on October 26, when the upcoming version of
the operating system of the company will be released.
The Surface
services will be available in two models, the Windows RT model using ARM chips,
which are relatively cheaper, and the Windows 8 Pro using the Ivy Bridge
processor of Intel, which has a bigger price tag.
It should be
noted that the Windows RT model of the Microsoft Surface tablet will be
released on October 26 since the Windows Pro model will be released after
around ninety days. Some industry watchers are speculating that the Microsoft
Surface tablets will be released in the US and the UK markets.
The
Microsoft Surface tablet is the company’s answer to the iPad of Apple although
it remains uncertain how it will perform in the market until it is finally
released by the company. Some reports have indicated that the Windows RT model
may be priced at around $600 while the Pro model may have a price tag of around
$1,000.
The
performance of the Microsoft Surface tablet in the market will be determined
not only by its features but by its pricing as well. If the device will be
priced too high, it may not be able to knock off the iPad from the top of the
tablet market.
In addition
to the iPad, the Microsoft Surface tablet will have to deal with a number of
Android-powered tablets including the Samsung Galaxy Tab and the Asus
Transformer Prime. The upcoming device will be facing an uphill battle once it
enters the rather competitive tablet market.
