US Release of LG Optimus Vu Coming Soon

The direct rival of the Samsung Galaxy Note is set to be released into the US market sometime in the third quarter. According reports the LG Optimus Vu may be released into the United States in the coming weeks.

The five-inch device offering of LG is a combination of a smartphone and a tablet, similar to the Samsung Galaxy Note. The LG Optimus Vu will also feature 4G LTE network support and may be offered by a US-based mobile service provider.

Although no specific mobile service provider was indicated in a press release from the company, there are indications that Verizon may be the first US-based carrier to offer the LG Optimus Vu in the United States. The LG Optimus Vu was initially introduced during the Mobile World Congress last February.

The device will come with a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 32GB internal storage, and eight-megapixel camera. However the 1024 by 768 resolution and 4:3 ratio of its screen display will put it at a disadvantage against the Samsung Galaxy Note.

It also remains uncertain if the LG Optimus Vu will be released into the US market using the Ice Cream Sandwich Android or the older Gingerbread Android OS. Verizon may not have an easy time in promoting the upcoming smartphone/tablet hybrid if it will be released into the market using the Android 2.3 OS instead of the relatively new Ice Cream Sandwich Android OS.

LG and Verizon may have its work cut out for them as it tries to make the LG Optimus Vu competitive in the market particularly with the supposed upcoming release of the Samsung Galaxy Note 2.

The device lineup of Verizon is set to receive another entry as the LG Optimus Vu is expected to be offered through the US-based mobile service provider.

The LG Optimus Vu is a five-inch smartphone/tablet hybrid similar to the Samsung Galaxy Note although it was not given much regard by a number of industry watchers probably because of its rather large appearance compared to the South Korean device.  Despite this design oversight, the features and the performance of the device are still considered notable enough for a number of industry watchers.

The device will use the Ice Cream Sandwich Android 4.0 OS out-of-the-box. The LG Optimus Vu will come with a 1.5 GHz dual-core processor, 1GB RAM, and an internal storage of 32GB. Its five-inch screen display has a resolution of 1024 x 768 and an aspect ratio of 4:3, making it easier to view web pages and read documents.

The LG Optimus Vu also features a 1.3MP front camera, an 8MP rear camera, and near field communication or NFC technology.

The phablet or phone / tablet hybrid is currently available through AT&T as well as T-Mobile. The LG Optimus Vu is wider and shorter compared to the Galaxy Note with a length of 5.5inches and width of 3.5 inches. In comparison the Samsung Galaxy Note has a length and width of 5.78 inches and 3.27 inches respectively.

The LG Optimus Vu also offers a bigger internal storage compared to the Samsung Galaxy Note although its screen resolution is lower compared to the Samsung device. The LG device also offers more stylus-optimized applications.

The release date and pricing of the LG Optimus Vu of Verizon has yet to be announced by the mobile service provider.

The five-inch LG Optimus Vu was recently made available for sale in South Korea.

The device is supposedly the answer of LG to the Samsung Galaxy Note. However it seems that this particular device will cost more compared to the smartphone / tablet hybrid device of Samsung.

With the availability of the LG Optimus Vu, the Samsung Galaxy Note will now have something to look out for in the market. The device offering from this South Korean device manufacturer will have a price tag of around $900 for an unlocked version.

The five-inch display of the LG Optimus Vu is going to be an IPS display that has a 4:3 aspect ratio, which optimizes readability. This has led to assumptions that the device will be positioned by the company as an e-reader option. The device will run the Gingerbread Android although the Android 4.0 update will be released by the company soon.

The LG Optimus Vu will also offer support for LTE networks.

The price tag of the LG Optimus Vu is around $200 higher compared to the unlocked version of the Samsung Galaxy Note. The market performance of the device in North America also remains to be seen due to the price tag that the device is being offered.

For the moment no details are available as to when the LG Optimus Vu will be offered in North America although if the size is increased there might be a possibility that the device will be more competitive in this particular market.
