Even as
reports of the upcoming iPad mini continue to emerge, sales of the iPad in the
last quarter are reportedly nearing the twenty million mark.
A note to
investors released by Charlie Wolf of Needham & Company revealed that
projected sales of the iPad of Apple for the quarter that ended last June was
at twenty million, which is higher compared to the initial projection of the
analyst by 6.5 million units. The solid sales of the iPad 2 and the new iPad
contributed to the notable sales figure for the device, which comes despite
increasing number of reports on the supposed iPad mini.
Reports have
given indications that the iPad mini will be released by Apple within the year.
The iPad mini will feature a smaller screen display measuring 7.85 inches and
is expected to be promoted in the mid-range tablet category. The upcoming iPad
mini will reportedly go up against the Google Nexus 7 tablet, the latest
Android-powered device that was released into the market recently.
The Google
Nexus 7 tablet will reportedly feature a number of notable features along with
the Jelly Bean Android 4.1 OS and will have a price tag of around $200.
Wolf also
indicated that the shipments of the iPad may soon surpass the shipments of the
iPhone. This would indicate that Apple will be able to sell more units of the
iPad along with the still-unannounced iPad mini compared to its competitors as
well as the upcoming iPhone 5.
