Reported Xbox 720 May Feature AMD Processor

It seems that reports about the next-generation Xbox have started to pour in with the latest report indicating that the supposed Xbox 720 will feature an AMD processor to facilitate the porting of PC titles into the game console from Microsoft.

The upcoming game console is expected to be launched by next month and will reportedly be a system-on-a-chip that will use the Jaguar CPU of AMD along with a graphics chip that is supposedly better to the ones used on the current models of the game console.

The CNET report indicated that the chip that will be used on the next-generation Xbox will be based on the x86 architecture. This means game developers will not find it difficult to port game titles from mobile devices or PCs into the supposed Xbox 720. Game development costs will go down since the architecture used on the game console is the same one that developers are already using when they develop games.

On the part of AMD, the use of their chip on the next Xbox is considered another accomplishment following the announcement by Sony that its PlayStation 4 will also be using an AMD processor. However, Sony has not yet officially launched the device. The visuals on the game console of Sony will be better compared to the ones that are currently available in the market.

The collaboration between Microsoft and AMD on the next-generation Xbox does not surprise industry watchers since earlier reports have hinted at the possibility that the two companies are working together in the development of the supposed Xbox 720.

Neal Robison, the ISV relationship management director of AMD, had indicated in 2011 that the next-generation Xbox of Microsoft will come with enough power for individual personalities in the games, which will give them a more human-like characteristic.

Robison also indicated that the supposed Xbox 720 will have the capability of offering graphics that are similar to the ones found on the 2009 hit movie, “Avatar.”

Will gamers finally get some solid information about the oft-reported next-generation Xbox or what some have dubbed as the Xbox 720 by May 21?

According to reports, the software giant may make the announcement during an event on that date, which was initially scheduled this month. This reaffirms the information that was revealed earlier by Paul Thurrott, a Windows blogger. Thurrot revealed through an interview that Microsoft planned to make the announcement on April 24 however it was rescheduled to May 21.

The event on May 21 where the next-generation Xbox will be announced is reportedly going to be small, according to The Verge. It will give some information of the game console that was given the codename Durango. The supposed Xbox 720 is anticipated to be officially introduced during the E3 event in June and will become available in the market before the end of the year.

The standard model game console will reportedly have a $500 price tag while the subscription-based model will be priced at $300, Thurrott said. He also gave some insight on reports that the “Durango” will reportedly require continuous internetconnection, which got the creative director into hot water after he told people to simply deal with this supposed requirement for the next-generation Xbox.

Thurrott was unsure of this requirement for the next-generation Xbox, but he did indicate earlier that the game console should be connected to the internet to use it. Although he did not give the source of this particular piece of information about the reported Xbox 720, he has the knack of revealing accurate tidbits about the plan of the software giant.

An earlier revelation of the blogger also indicated that the Xbox 360 will be update and will have a price tag of $99. This gives indications that Xbox 360 games may not be playable on the Xbox 720. However, the cheaper Xbox 360 may be offered as an alternative to other cheaper consoles that are currently in the market today.

Thurrot further indicated that the upcoming Microsoft game console will be released by November, which will make it ready for the holiday shopping season.

The software giant has not given any information in connection to the next-generation Xbox. The company indicated that it does not make any statements about speculations after it was asked about the reports connected to the announcement about the supposed Xbox 720 by May 21.

It will reportedly have a power state that will allow it to remain online all the time even when it is not used, using a small amount of electricity while doing so. Reports that the Xbox 720 will supposedly reject used video games compelled a videogame retailer to issue a statement recently. The retailer gets a good portion of its revenue from the sales of used videogames.

Matt Hodges, spokesman for GameStop, indicated that a survey conducted by the company showed that a good number of their clients will not acquire a game console that restricts the use of previously-owned videogames.

The statements were issued following a report confirming the rumors about the plan of Microsoft for the next generation videogame console. The report supposedly confirmed earlier rumors that the Xbox 720 will prevent the use of previously-owned video games using a game activation control procedure.

Hodges revealed that the demand for the supposed Xbox 720 will be affected by its restriction against playing used videogames. He added that the 21 million members of the loyalty program of the retailer were tapped in the survey to establish whether this reported videogame console will be popular among users.

No statements were issued by Microsoft in connection to the report about the Xbox 720. Although GameStop has not revealed if it had any details about the plans for the next generation console of Microsoft, it has a number of reasons in making the revelation. Shares of the company declined by six percent after the emergence of the reports that confirmed the limitation set by the device on used videogames.

A continuous internet connection is required for virtual personal assistants such as Google Now and Siri to function properly.

The living room has become the latest battleground for gaming consoles, and reports have given indications that Apple is set to unveil its own HDTV offering.

Despite years of rumors, the supposed Apple HDTV has never made appearance in the market. On the other hand, Microsoft seems to be working on making a beachhead at the favorite place of the house of couch potatoes. The upcoming game console from Microsoft, which was called the Xbox 720 by some industry watchers, will supposedly be launched during the E3 event in June next year. However, some reports have indicated that a separate event will be held that will focus on the console itself.

The Xbox 720, which was given the codename Durango, will reportedly be ready for next year’s Black Friday sales event and holiday shopping season. When a spokeswoman from Microsoft was asked about the Xbox 720 reports, she avoided the topic and focused on how the company aims to extend the lifecycle of the Xbox 360.

The Xbox 720 will reportedly feature a Blu-ray drive, Kinect compatibility, A/V ports for viewing as well as recording television shows, and a better controller.

For the moment, the Xbox 360 is dominating the game console market in the US as it became the top game console in the US market for fifteen straight months last October. It also had 56 percent share of the US console market last October.

However a gaming website, GameZone.com, indicated that once the number eight is turned to its side, it shows the symbol for infinity. This resulted to some speculations of a possible Xbox Infinity instead of the Xbox 720 although another website has also indicated that the Xbox will celebrate its eighth birthday next year.

Another possible possibility is that the deal may be linked to the Windows 8 OS of Microsoft, which is set to be released soon instead of the reported Xbox 720. The company recently gave indications that the Xbox Live is set to be offered on its soon-to-be-released operating system.

However it may also be possible that the reports may indicate that the company is simply trying to protect its trademarks and may not be connected to a possible Xbox 8 or the supposed Xbox 720. It should be noted that companies normally purchase URLs that may be linked to its products.

A number of takedown notices from Microsoft seem to give the confirmation on the genuineness of the PowerPoint file that reportedly shows the road map for the upcoming Xbox 720 game console of the company.

The software giant is reportedly intent in going after the companies that have hosted the supposed leaked document linked to the upcoming Xbox 720. According to reports, a tech site based in Czechoslovakia, a notice was sent by an internet investigator from Microsoft requesting the website to remove the copyrighted work.  The notice indicated that the website was offering copies that are unlicensed or is engaged in unauthorized activities in relation to copyrighted works that were published by Microsoft.

Another report indicated that the file containing the supposed Xbox 720 roadmap was banned by Dropbox from its service. A reporter from WP Central supposedly attempted to open the Xbox 720-linked document through Dropbox but he was directed to a page that indicated that the document was unavailable because of a takedown request by Microsoft under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act.

The leaked document from Microsoft reported showcased the plans of the company for the upcoming Xbox 720 game console. It emerged over at Scribd before the document was removed from the website by Covington & Burling, an international law firm that has Microsoft among its client list.

The recent takedown request for the document linked to the Xbox 720 roadmap is just one of the requests made by Microsoft, which has requested the removal of over 480,000 URLs last month basing on the Transparency Report of Google. In second place in the number of takedown requests is NBC Universal which has around 242,000 requests.

No statements were issued by Microsoft on the takedown request made on the document that reportedly showed the roadmap for the upcoming Xbox 720 game console.

A 56-page document reportedly gives the details of the upcoming Xbox 720 game console along with the successor to the Kinect and add-on glasses that was called Project Fortaleza. According to The Verge, the document was dated on August 2010 and makes references that are consistent with the Metro dashboard and SmartGlass.

The document makes references to the Xbox 720, which may just be a working title for the upcoming game console although it may be possible for the device to use it as its final name. The reported Xbox 720 will reportedly come with a Blu-ray feature that will offer the playing of 1080pHD videos. The upcoming device will also offer 3D movie-playing capabilities.

The leaked document also gives indications that the upcoming Xbox 720 will feature a massive increase in power compared to the present version of the game console. It ‘always on’ state will also give indications that the upcoming Xbox 720 will feature fast start-up speeds.

The full features of the upcoming Xbox 720 were not revealed in the document although it make likely come with eight x86 or ARM cores and may be clocked at 2GHz each as well as feature a 4GB memory.
